When I first purchased this set more than a year ago, I ended up storing it away in the bottom drawer of my sewing cabinet and forgot about it for quite a while. Later, in March 2020, when I was sewing face masks and starting to run low on elastic, I decided to take out the HoneySew Bias Tape Maker and finally give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked and how smoothly it helped me make fabric ties. The one I use most is the largest size, the blue maker, which is labeled 25 mm. For my strips, I cut the fabric about 1 3/4 inches wide, and instead of cutting on the bias, I cut straight from selvage to selvage. I trim one end at an angle to make feeding the fabric easier, and then guide it through the tool without much trouble. Since I am right-handed, I hold the tape maker in my left hand and use my iron with my right, pressing the fabric as I gently pull the tool along. Once the strip has gone through completely, I fold it in half again and press it one more time for a neat finish. It has been especially useful for making mask ties for people who prefer ties over elastic, even though the process does take a little more time. My only small downsides are that I wish the sizing were marked in inches instead of millimeters, and I would also love an option that is just slightly larger than the blue one

As a beginner in quilting, I really wanted these rulers to work well for me, and getting started took a little trial and error. The first challenge was finding the correct presser foot for my machine, which uses a low shank setup. Even though many presser feet were labeled as low shank, several of them still did not fit my machine properly. Once I finally found the right foot, I was able to start using the rulers as intended. The rulers themselves did work, but on their own they felt a bit flimsy and were hard to grip securely, which caused them to slip while I was sewing. To improve that, I bought the guide, hoping it would hold the ruler more firmly in place. The guide helped, but it was slightly too large for the ruler, so the ruler could still move around and slip out during use. After a little experimenting, I added some painter’s tape to keep the ruler more secure inside the guide, and that solved the problem surprisingly well. Once I made that adjustment, everything started working much better and I was finally able to enjoy practicing with them on my quilt sandwiches. Now that I feel more comfortable and confident using the rulers, I think I am ready to try them on my first real quilt
